First-Year Navigational Seminar Details
The Navigational Seminar 190 (fall quarter), Seminar 191 (winter quarter), and Seminar 192 (spring quarter) are offered in sequence as an academic success course series. Pre-enrollment secures a space for incoming students with a certain GPA threshold. As a cohort, the seminar students enrolled in the academic year-long 1-credit courses are supported by peer-mentors, faculty, and other on-campus partners. The courses are designed to build on student essential college-level skills, connect students with on-campus services, assist students in finding on-campus employment, and create opportunities for students to engage in organized social events and campus clubs.
College success workshops
There will be several workshops throughout Navigational Seminars, which will introduce students to different campus resources, such as the Learning Commons and Campus Prevention and Wellness. These workshops will provide helpful tips on managing your physical and mental well-being in college and learning effective study skills, in order to help students build a solid foundation of knowledge and skills for academic success before fall classes begin.
Community-building activities
There will be several structured group activities to facilitate community-building with other Navigational Seminars participants and orient students to campus life and the surrounding community.
Class time
Navigational Seminars students will be in class 1 hour per week during the academic year.
