About the Seminars
The First-Generation Navigational Seminars at Western Washington University is a year-long seminar series designed to help first-generation students successfully navigate their first year of college.
Through the seminars, students will:
- Gain the skills and knowledge to excel in their studies.
- Have community-building opportunities.
- Build lasting relationships with fellow first-generation students, creating a supportive network.
- Be introduced to university resources and how best to utilize them.
Who Can Attend the Seminars?
These seminars are reserved for first-generation, Washington College Grant-eligible, first-year students.

Seminar Series
Fall Quarter – Seminar 190: Curricular & Campus Engagement
- Gain insights into university resources and build a foundation for academic success.
- Develop a supportive community through cohort activities and discussions.
Winter Quarter – Seminar 191: Co-Curricular Partnerships
- Engage with on-campus partners and participate in Accessibility, Equity and Inclusion (ADEI) training.
- Enhance your understanding of co-curricular opportunities that complement your academic experience.
Spring Quarter – Seminar 192: Extra-Curricular & Community Relations
- Apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings through community service and extracurricular activities.
- Strengthen your leadership skills and community involvement.
How to Reserve Your Spot
The First-Generation Navigational Seminars are open to incoming first-year, first-generation students eligible for the Washington College Grant.
While reservations are closed, you may still be able to add it to your Fall class schedule during your Advising & Registration (A&R) session.
Cancellation
Reservation cancellation requests must be received by August 31, 2024, and sent in writing to FirstYearInterestGroup@wwu.edu or Shurla.Thibou@wwu.edu.
